This week, we’re highlighting our VP of Sales and Marketing, Lou Barbato. Lou’s been with Jekyll for just over a year now, and has already made huge impacts for our brewery. Hey Lou, we appreciate everything you do. Enjoy this look at our own Mr. Baseball, Lou Barbato.

“My love for beer and the amazing beer industry goes WAY back to the Summer of 1985. After graduation from Ithaca College, I took my very first job as a salesman with the Genesee Brewing Company in my hometown of Rochester, NY. Nine years later in October of 1994, I was promoted to Regional Manager and moved my very young family to Atlanta to launch the Genesee line of beers and a brand called J.W. Dundee’s Honey Brown Lager in the Southeast.

Back in the mid-90’s, Honey Brown Lager had the perception as a “craft” offering! It was brewed with Manitoba Clover Honey out of Canada and was a full-bodied flavored lager that served as a “bridge” beer to the newly “birthed” world of craft. It’s funny to think that “craft” beer brands in the southeast at that time were extremely limited with Sam Adams, Pete’s Wicked Ale, Shiner Bock and even Killian’s Irish Red popular amongst consumers.   

Last September, after an enjoyable run with the largest beer company in the world, I accepted an incredible opportunity from Founder, Mike Lundmark to come join the Jekyll Brewing Family! The past 13 months have been very gratifying and I have learned a ton about the craft beer business. I’m extremely passionate about our brands and proud of our people and believe that the future is bright for Jekyll Brewing!”

Personal Facts:

  • Married to Maria Barbato for 31 years

  • Have 4 children (Matthew 30, Zachary 28, Noah 26 and Hannah 24) and 2 grandchildren (Kiegan 10 & Brooke 4)

  • Daughter Hannah is expecting grandchild #3 in June of 2018

  • Have two dogs Bella and Molly

  • Have lived in Atlanta for the past 23 years
